The Winthrop Athletics Hall of Fame will swell to 41 members on January 27, 2012 when six former student-athletes are inducted in McBryde Hall at 6:30 p.m.

Current Colorado Rockies pitcher Kevin Slowey will highlight the 2012 class that also includes Clayton Almeida (tennis), Octavia Goode (track and field), Catherine (Rheiner) Shealy (golf), Rusty Theinert (soccer), and Janiva Willis (softball).

The selections for Winthrop’s eighth Hall of Fame class are notable this year for having as much success in the classroom as the playing field. Almeida was a two-time Big South Conference Academic Team selection, Slowey is the 2005 BSC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Willis was a Top 10 Finalist for NCAA National Woman of the Year.

Tickets for the dinner are priced at $25 each and must be purchased in advance by contacting Sharen Dubard (803-323-2129 ext. 6218) or in person at the Winthrop Coliseum.  No tickets will be sold at the door on the night of the event.
