A Winthrop men's soccer player was arrested Friday morning around 2 a.m. for public disorderly conduct, along with two other people, according to a Winthrop police report.
Zachary Capito, junior midfielder, was arrested by Campus Police after fighting with another man, police said.
The reporting officer observed Capito and another man actively engaged in a fight on lawn and on a porch, destroying many of the objects in their immediate vicinity, the police report said.
While trying to break up the fight, the officer told both Capito and the other man that they were under arrest and immediately handcuffed Capito, police said.
The second man, however, ran from the officer, according to the report.
After a brief search, the man emerged from the rear of the house where he was attempting to elude arrest, and was immediately arrested, the report said.
The Johnsonian attempted to contact Capito and head men's soccer coach Rich Posipanko but neither have returned requests for comment. Jack Frost, director of media relations for athletics, could also not be reached for comment.
A female student was also involved, though she was uncooperative with police and was consuming alcohol underage; the second man was also arrested for consumption of alcohol under 21, the police report said.
The report lists Capito as 21-years-old and indicates that he had consumed alcohol that night.
Police said the fight started when Capito called the female student names. The other man involved, her boyfriend, told police he was "defending his girlfriend's honor."
