A new era of leadership for the sports section in The Johnsonian has arrived. We are committed to covering Winthrop athletics and club sports, although if there are other athletic achievements on or around campus, we will not hesitate to shed light on those. Our section will report sports news, good or bad; we will tell it like it is. This is our introduction to the Winthrop population. Here’s hoping for a successful and victorious season for all Eagles teams.
Sports editor, Jeff Brodeur
After growing up in the small town of Charlton, Mass., I opted for a change of scenery and decided transfer to Winthrop following my freshman year. While I was searching for schools and the name Winthrop came up, my first thought was, “Oh, the school that beat Notre Dame in basketball a few years ago.” That’s how big of an impact sports has on my life. I played basketball and baseball most of my life, so writing about them is my forte. However, I’ve always taken an interest to sports in general and I look forward to the opportunity to explore and expose everything Winthrop athletics have to offer.

Although I was born in Detroit, Mich., I have spent much of my life in South Carolina and am very knowledgeable about local sports news, both in my hometown of Clemson and right here in Rock Hill. I mainly enjoy covering soccer, but have been known to embrace basketball, men’s and women’s, as well as lacrosse and tennis. I hope to write stories that delve into the personalities of our peers and student-athletes, in addition to reporting on their athletic achievements.
