CSL keeps pushing for student voting

The Council of Student Leaders has made it easy for Winthrop students to register to vote during the 2011-2012 school year.

Last semester, they were able to help 225 students register to vote with the help of other Winthrop organizations.

This semester, they will be mailing off registration forms for students eligible to vote. Their goal is to get a tenth of the student body registered to vote by the end of the year.

Many students are over the age of 18, but still have not registered to vote.

With the general presidential elections coming up in November, students are encouraged to take an active part in voting.

CSL plans to register another 375 students this semester in order to reach their goal of 600 students.

The student leaders have also started an e-mail campaign promoting students to write a letter to at least one of a list of six South Carolina government officials, including Gov. Nikki Haley, about the funding for higher education.

CSL will continue the campaign into the upcoming fall semester to encourage students to write a letter to their own specific S.C. House Representative or state senator.
